Family and Community Involvement
At Crossway Preschool we strive to develop positive and respectful partnerships with families through welcoming family participation and involvement in our programs. Children thrive when families and educators work together to support their learning.
We recognise that families are children’s first and most influential teachers. We provide a welcoming environment where all children and families are respected and actively encouraged to collaborate with our educators about curriculum decisions, ensuring learning experiences are meaningful.
Get Involved
There are a number of different ways family members can become involved and share in learning at Crossway Preschool.
Become a Preschool Sub-committee member
Preschool sub-committee members work closely with the Preschool Director and educators to organise, support and encourage families’ attendance and involvement in social events, fundraising opportunities and other special events.
Join us for ‘kinder duty’
Family members are encouraged to ‘stay and play’ for kinder duty. This is an invaluable way to deepen your understanding of what happens each day at preschool and engage with the children and educators.
Share your skills and knowledge
We encourage family members to visit the preschool to share an interesting job, skill or hobby such as cooking, gardening, sewing or a musical instrument.
Attend a working bee
Working bees are an opportunity for the preschool community to come together to keep our facilities looking fabulous, whilst getting know other families.
Fundraising
While government funding covers the basic costs of our programs, our preschool relies on the support of families through fundraising to ensure we keep our preschool running as wonderfully as it does with optimum resources.
Community
At Crossway Preschool we nurture children as they strive for connection and seek belonging to people, place and community, helping them to learn about local ways of being. We spend time visiting parks, gardens and libraries in our local community as part of our regular ‘Out and About’ program.
Our Nature Play program enables children to build connections and increase interactions with local community members they come to know and recognise. Nature Play raises the children’s awareness of the impact of the local environment on their lives and assists them to learn ways to care for the environment and contribute to a sustainable future.
